Johnny Depp as Barnabas!!!

A friend put the rumour my way today that Johnny Depp is slotted to play Barnabas Collins in a new fim version of Dark Shadows. Well, I nearly wet my pants. And searching about, it seems it could be true!

Like Johhny, I was a dedicated fan of the original series and am currently being treated to the 90's remake on the Horror Channel UK.

so a friend and i just watched a few episodes on dvd from collection 1, and WOW are there some highly suggestive scenes between willy and jason, and by extension between willy and barnabus, and/or willy, jason, and barnabus. now, as my friend so insightfully pointed out, there's a rich history of homoerotics in vampire narratives more generally, but i'm wondering what anybody else thinks. have you noticed homoerotic tensions or subplots in DS?

Dark Shadows decor

If I can't live at Collinwood (I missed my chance by not attending Salve Regina University as an undergraduate), then I want my place to look as much like it as possible. So I'm scouring second hand shops, garage sales, and ebay for the right stuff, but the last arena is coming up dry, maybe because I'm not using the right search words. Gothic furniture didn't do it; "medieval" pulled up SCA stuff; I'm looking for that great late 60s overblown pseduo-gothic Hammer Horror home decor. Can anyone recommend good search keywords?

favorite scenes

while i'm constantly enamoured by the furnishings (again and again and again), i re-watched an episode tonight that has a truly awesome shot of barnabas. perhaps it's the fact that his cheekbones have never looked so pronounced, or maybe it's his recently shorn hair. but in any case, it's got me wondering which scenes/camera angles/armchairs other people find memorable.

2006 40th Anniversary of Dark Shadows Festival

This year will be the 40th Anniversary of Dark Shadows. The Dark Shadows Festival will be held in New York this year. The dates will be from August 25 to 27, 2006. It will be held at the New York Marriott in Brooklyn New York.

Guests will include David Selby, Lara Parker, Jerry Lacy, and many others. There will also be a special tribute to the late Dan Curtis. They will also show the NEW Dark Shadows pilot.

2005 Dark Shadows Festival

The 2005 Dark Shadows Festival will be on the West Coast this year.
The Festival will be on July 29, 30, and 31, at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood CA.

They will be events during the entire weekend plus they will show the pilot of the New Dark Shadows TV show.

DS on the WB

I looks like The WB is going to bring back Dark Shadows. John Wells is going to produce along with Dan Curtis. there say it will be aired in the 04-05 in prime time.

Wells has done both movies (Timecop)and TV (ER).

Dark Shadows is leaving the Sci-fi Channel

I've heard the Sci-fi channel will stop showing Dark Shadows by the end of the year. At the rate they are going, this means they will not complete the entire run of episodes. Has anyone else heard this?
